Leading TYPO3 Developer snowflake productions GmbH establishes office in Japan [Press Release]

snowflake in Japan

snowflake productions GmbH will launch its first presence outside Switzerland in April 2009. The company will establish snowflake Co., Ltd. as its new subsidary for Japan in Makuhari, Chiba (20km east of Tokyo) and has appointed Thomas Schläpfer as representative director. snowflake will now begin to promote TYPO3 Open Source CMS in the Japanese market.

About TYPO3

TYPO3 - a powerful open source software in the domain of content management systems (CMS)

The CMS software market has grown substantially in recent years and TYPO3 could establish itself as a leading player, foremost in its provenience European market. A recent open source trend study in Germany attests a market share for TYPO3 of over 40% in corporations and the public sector.

TYPO3 is available in over 45 languages, also in Japanese. It offers all the tools and resources needed to develop professional websites and efficient web applications. And with the professional services offered by snowflake in Japan now, there is a strong local partner available to assist also for demanding projects.

One of the fastest growing content management systems

TYPO3 has been downloaded over 3.800.000 times from Sourceforge.org which makes it one of the world's most popular enterprise open source products.

As a content management framework, TYPO3 offers a broad range of basic functionalities e.g. content editing (text, pictures, tables, forms, etc.), page tree with context-sensitive menu, image manipulation (rotate, resize, crop, file type conversion, click-to-enlarge), internal search engine, sitemap, preview before publishing, roll back (undo), logs and many more.

And with well over 3'500 extensions, there is a large pool of freely available, high-quality add-ons (called TYPO3 extensions) ready to download. Developer tools help to create customized extensions.

CMS for challenging projects

TYPO3 suits very well as a CMS for all kinds of web projects (internet, closed systems, extranet, intranet) but also as a web application framework for client-specific solutions.

For content editors, the administration panel is easy and safe to handle. With frontend-editing enabled, the editor can change the content directly on the web page. There is no need to know HTML code or use additional desktop applications. Enterprise users also appreciate the integrated workflow, enabling press, planning or marketing divisions to check and modify all data before it is published.

Website content can be updated efficiently without the need of outsourced partners. The fine-graded user-rights for editors allow a consistent and unified appearance of all websites of a company or organization. It is ideal to establish and maintain a strong online brand over many sites. Thus TYPO3 is often used to consolidate different web solutions with various designs into one consistent system (e.g. global site with country sites).

TYPO3 as a Business Application

Enterprise users like particularly its flexibility, multi-site capabilites, multi-language handling and the efficient integration through XML or web services with other business applications in use (e.g. ERP, CRM, supply chain management, document management, etc.).

TYPO3 enriches enterprise portals with standardized tools like discussion forum, news with archive, e-commerce shop, picture galleries, location-based services and e-marketing newsletters in a very cost efficient way.

With the use of wiki, AJAX, blogs, microblogging, social bookmarking and networks, TYPO3 is also a promising software for modern Web 2.0 applications. Requirements towards search engine optimization (SEO) and web accessibility (WAI) also can be smoothly accomplished.

Open Source Software

TYPO3 is licensed under the popular GNU general public license (GPL). It is free to use, there are no license costs involved. Neither for the software installed on the server nor for content editors on a per-user basis.

This vendor independence minimizes the investment risks for clients significantly and protects their customized solutions. In the current economic crisis, the cost advantages over commercial products is another significant fact and allow users to save a substantial amount of money.

Many of snowflake's customers report that the initial investment for a TYPO3-based solution was one third or more under that of a comparable commercial solution. The cost performance in the long run is even more competitive as there are no license costs to pay in the coming years.

Open source projects generally enjoy also a faster time to market, as many project requirements are already available as extensions. The development process can mainly concentrate on new or tailor-made functions.
