Also we enjoy reading the many feedbacks from our users. It's great to hear about your story and how you use todoyu in your everday work. Tell us also your story!

New in Calendar: Drag and Drop Events

The calendar gets a neat feature update in todoyu 2.0.4.

To rearrange a scheduled meeting, just change it by drag-and-drop the event to a new day and time in the shared calendar.

Save your Search as Filters

Filters are one of the most powerful feature to customize todoyu for your individual work environment. Filters can search in tasks and projects using a large variety of parameters and combine them with an AND/OR operator.

Once setup, you can save the search as a filter and by one click access the filtered list view in your personalized portal tab. Very efficient...

We added 8 more parameters:
7 project filter parameters for time management,
1 task filter parameter to search for customer names.

Developer Documentation

Are you a coder and not a scribbler? Then this is for you.

The detailed inline documentation (JavaDoc style) will be very helpful for you as a developer to dive directly into the code and have a close look at todoyu's architecture.

We also provide the full todoyu inline documentation (API Doc). As we are working continously on the documentation, please make sure you come back frequently. Enjoy!

QuickStart Manual Updated

For your first steps with todoyu, we have created a QuickStart manual. In only 19 pages you can learn how to setup todoyu and create your first project.

The documentation is available as a PDF download and new also in OpenOffice format (.odt).

Maybe the open document helps, if you plan to translate the QuickStart guide into your local language. We are happy to publish your version on todoyu.com.

Thanks to the Sponsor!

Stefan Boos is a todoyu user since August 2010. He and his 3 colleagues are using todoyu to manage their website project. And he contacted us with a feature request: in a task, when typing an URI within the comments text-field, why not auto-create a link?

Good idea, and Stefan offered even to sponsor this development. So we did: todoyu 2.0.4 can auto-create links in the RTE.

Thanks Stefan for getting in contact with us and sponsor this feature!

Open Source Conference in Sendai

snowflake presents todoyu in Sendai

Less then 2 weeks after the stable version of todoyu 2.0 has been released, snowflake was presenting the new software to the Japanese open source audience in Sendai, Nothern Japan.

At OSC (Open Source Conference) Sendai, we were also presenting TYPO3 as well as Magento at the snowflake booth.

By bullet train to Sendai

Adrian and me were going together to Sendai. To be able to setup the booth before the conference started at 10am, we both get up at around 4.30am and took the Shinkansen for the 400km travel up north from Tokyo. With speed up to 270km/h, the train "flight" took only 1h and 45min. There are even double decker bullet trains, called MAX.

Booth Setup

Arrived at the Tohoku Computer College in Sendai, we started to setup the booth.

Good crowd

The conference started at 10am, and there were already people coming along. Sometimes we had a large crowd around the booth listening to my presentation and ask questions. Checking the time... it was already 2pm.

Most people of course asked about the Japanese translation for todoyu. It was our goal to find interested open source enthusiasts to support or make the translation. Also we were searching ways to start a todoyu community in Japan.

Japanese handouts

We printed 500 copies of the Japanese handout... and they were like flying. Even OSC Sendai was not a major open source conference in Japan, but more than 350 flyers we could distribute on one day.

Will also the number of todoyu downloads increase? Let's see.

Launch of todoyu 2.0

The final version of todoyu 2.0 launched

snowflake's new open source software todoyu 2.0 for project- and task management, time tracking and team collaboration is ready and we launch the stable version.

We fixed about 200 inconsistencies and bugs and invested more than 550 working hours since the last release candidate (RC2). All of us have been working very hard to achieve this major milestone, and I am very happy with the result. Also it's great to see how people around the world began to use todoyu and even contribute to it with language translations. Thank you very much!

Enjoy organizing your projects and tasks with todoyu. It's now stable... and it's free. Download todoyu 2.0.0 now.

Support for Time Zones

todoyu is all about working on projects in a team. In a global business world, team members but also clients can be located on several different locations. To also support such circumstances, we brought time zone support into todoyu.

The settings are made in two steps. In the todoyu installation process, you first set the default time zone of your system. Next you specify the time zone in the address field of a person or a company. If a person has no address but is connected to an employer, the time zone will be taken from that company record.

More Browsers, Including IE8

todoyu supports now the four major web browsers for a smooth operation: Safari from Apple, Chrome from Google, Internet Explorer from Microsoft and Firefox from Mozilla.

The styling for IE 8, Chrome and Safari are all set. Unfortunately not all of them support the nice interactions as Firefox does, but we tried hard to make the work with all browsers as smooth as possible.

New Language: Brazilian Portuguese

Thanks to the speedy translation made by Max N Kanadani from Brazil, we now already have Portuguese Brazilian as new language available. A third language beside English and German.

We also get to know, that other enthusiasts started their work to translate todoyu into even more languages. That's great news! Thanks for your efforts.

Upload your Company Logo

By default todoyu comes with the snowflake logo. We do very well understand, that is the first thing you would like to customize: to upload a logo and put the branding of your organization.

This is now available to administrators. Go to the Admin module and select "System Configuration". There you find a field to choose your logo and upload it as a jpg, png or gif file. And todoyu then automatically resizes it to the maximum dimensions of 190x60 pixels. So it always looks great, not streched. Neat.

Translating todoyu

Very positively surprised about translating efforts by the community, we switched todoyu 2.0.0 from simple translation to the more fine-grained localization method (L10N). We changed to two-letter codification (e.g. de -> de_CH).

Is your language still missing? Are you interested in working on a translation? We support your efforts. And by the way, you don't need necessarily to be a developer. We show you how it works. Don't forget that you will get listed as contributor on todoyu.com (if you want...)

Are you into translation? Then get in contact with us.

Commitment to Open Source

We have been asked by some of you, if todoyu will be free also in the future. Our clear answer is: YES. We are strongly commited to open source and free software. We guarantee you that it will stay free for you to download and use.

Our business model for todoyu is based on future todoyu extensions mainly for professional use (e.g. billing, resource planning). Also we are planning to offer hosting packages for users looking for a way to get todoyu without having to install and host it by themselves.

The software, the core of todoyu, is and will be free to download and use for everyone.

Documentation Updated

Together with the software release, we have also updated documentations:

The Quickstart Guide is for users and administrators alike to get to know todoyu. It's a PDF with 17 pages.

The other documentation is for developers. The API Doc is also available and updated. You find there in-depth information about data structure, classes and class hierarchies, data fields and lists of namespaces and files.

Discover the API Documentation (online)
Download the Quickstart Guide (PDF)

What's Coming Next

With the final release of todoyu today, we set the solid fundament for many more things to come. We already started working on a redesign of our website todoyu.com. It will become a modern and enjoyable place for you to experience all about todoyu.

Also we work on the todoyu Extension Repository (tER) as we have many ideas for more features for todoyu. You too? We want to create a place to showcase all add-ons.

Have you noticed that todoyu 2.0.0 already has 14 extensions included? There is also a button to install new extensions in the admin module. So with the tER, there will be an area to share and showcase all extensions at todoyu.com.

Beside free extensions, we also work specifically on two extensions targeted towards professional-use: billing and resource planning. We will bring these professional extensions first as a preview, also for you to understand our intension with tER, free extensions and professional extensions.

So stay tuned. And if a new feature idea comes up...
